Panda Blog #8

Screen Shot 2019-05-02 at 1.18.05 AMHello all! Well it’s been a long ride visiting so many restaurants here in Chico, CA. Today was my last time visiting a restaurant, for now, to conclude my last Blogs post about restaurants. This time I decided I would be visiting a very popular place named Panda Express. I have never tasted Panda Express but I have always heard positive things about their food. It’s not as convenient as most of the other restaurants I have visited because this one is across town about ten minutes driving from Chico State, but it is well worth it for its delicious food variety.

Screen Shot 2019-05-02 at 1.20.42 AMWhen I arrived at Panda Express there was only about three other customers and a long drive thru line. As for the employees, there was probably more than ten people. The server was very welcoming and patient with the orders of the customers. The place itself was also clean. When it came to order I decided to go for the chow mein, white steamed rice, fried rice, orange chicken, and of course a fortune cookie and all ordered to go.

Screen Shot 2019-05-02 at 1.22.52 AM.pngThe very first thing I was excited to taste was the orange chicken because all my friends said it’s the best. They were right it was very flavorful and juicy, probably the best thing from my entire order. Next, I decided to try the white rice and as expected it tasted like the one made a t home with a rice cooker so nothing new there. Then, I tried the fried rice which was much more seasoned and had veggies like peas, carrots and egg. Lastly, I tried the chow mein and it was the best because it was greasy but not too much and had just the right amount of veggies. Overall, the food was very appetizing, filling and delicious. I would recommend it to anyone who misses the orange chicken from High School and if you want a variety of dishes at low cost. It’s the best!

Hula’s Blog #7

Oh, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten to write on here again! I’m still here to share with all of you the most recent place I’ve visited and really enjoyed was a restaurant called Hula’s restaurant. Lately we have all been stressing about midterms and finals approaching here at CSU Chico that it seem impossible to get a break or so we think.Screen Shot 2019-04-24 at 12.21.21 PM

However, I had a friend convince me that I will have time to finish my work I just have to know how to manage my time and she invited me to go shopping and go out to eat. I wasn’t so sure about it at first because I’m not a big fan of Chinese food and it was far, but at the end I ended up going. Since it was far we decided to take an Uber.

Going in an Uber was so relaxing and faster compared to a bus which usually smell so much of cigarette smoke. Once we got there a smell of food was present outside of Hula’s, and let me tell you it wasn’t bad at all. Going inside was so much better I couldn’t believe it, but I was liking it. There wasn’t that many people which was good for us because we could get our food much faster. I was very surprised that here we were able to serve ourselves as much as we can fit into a bowl, so I definitely took advantage and filled it more than the top of the bowl. After getting my bowl there are people cooking it right in front of us.

Screen Shot 2019-04-24 at 12.20.42 PMWhat I choose to eat was chicken and it was frozen before it was cooked not thawed. I also went for noodles, broccoli, mushrooms, jalapenos, and bean sprouts. Overall the food together tasted very good almost like if it was chow main but much more greasy.

The meat I choose was not enough because it melted once the cook placed it in the pan, but of flavor it was very appetizing and easy to chew on maybe because it was greasy.

The vegetables on the other hand looked fresh and once cooked they were also delicious. Because all the juices where mixed there was more flavor on the vegetables. Even the bean sprouts had the chicken flavor and usually I don’t add bean sprouts to my food.

Screen Shot 2019-04-24 at 12.21.02 PMOn the side, we also received something that looked like pork skin chips, but very thin and with some sauce. I tried the chips but they seemed to have no flavor and very dull.

When I tasted my food, I loved it. I would definitely go back there again and would recommend it!

La Familia Blog #6

Today seemed like a really nice day outside and since it is Sunday a good day to not cook and eat with friends. A restaurant I have been planning to visit for a while has been La Familia Mexican Restaurant here in Chico, CA. I decided to go in the afternoon after getting some homework done, so I could actually enjoy the day.

Screen Shot 2019-04-11 at 11.15.04 AMLa Familia Mexican Restaurant is located about 15-20 minutes walking from Chico. It is a very convenient and short walk for those visiting Safeway or who live in the Aves. When I arrived to the restaurant it was blended with all the little shops nearby but other than that it is fairly easy to find. Inside the restaurant it’s very clean and everyone is friendly with everyone. The owner of the restaurant is also a worker there so it went very smooth ordering.

From the menu, I decide to order some of my favorite foods to go. I ordered two carnitas tacos and two asada tacos and a burrito de asada. For those who may not recognize some names I will explain that the meat carnitas is similar to pulled pork and asada is just beef. Another thing I ordered was also a beverage called Jarrito. This drink is very popular back in my home town because of how good it tastes. All of this cost me about or less than $15 and I am not complaining.

To my tacos I decided to add some salsa, cilantro, onion, and lime. The first thing I triedScreen Shot 2019-04-11 at 10.29.38 AM where my tacos de asada. I will tell you these were very fresh tasting and my mouth watered when I took a bite. I also liked that a good amount of salsa was added and not drenching on me. Next, I tried the carnitas tacos and I thought they were very good, but the meat was a bit dry for me. Overall, I would say the tacos were good and the toppings they added gave the tacos more taste and the cooks weren’t stingy with their meat or toppings.

Screen Shot 2019-04-11 at 10.20.41 AMLastly, I tried the burrito and let me tell you it was as good as the asada tacos. Inside, it had beans, rice and carne asada, but it can be prepared with any meat of your choice. The tortilla was also very soft and didn’t break apart like many others do. It was well stuffed and once again they weren’t stingy with their meat, so 10/10 I would recommend.

If you are looking for good asada meat I would totally encourage you all to go to La Familia Mexican Restaurant. They offer very good deals and service!

Tacos Mary Blog #5

After a 7hr long drive back to Chico, after Spring break, from my hometown the last thing I wanted to do was to cook. Therefore, I decided to grab something quick but filling and Tacos Mary seemed like the perfect place to go. I have heard from many students at Chico State that this is one of the most popular place to eat, because their food is one of the best from Chico and very close to campus and not too expensive. I wanted to find out if this was true and I was also very hungry, so I walked there and got there in about 5 minutes.

IMG_1397After coming back from home and eating home meals all week I wanted something similar that was fresh and spicy. I decided to order a carnitas torta with everything. This is kind of like a sandwich, but way better and with more flavor, with shredded pork. All tortas can have different ingredients depending on the restaurant you visit or they can also be easily made at home.

IMG_1400The torta I ordered was made up of carnitas, pork meat, lettuce, beans, fried onions, jalapenos, diced tomato, mayo and most impotently the bread a telera which is very soft when toasted on the pan. This torta was so good a very well filled, so much that the food dripped out of the bread. On the side, I also had a Coca Cola to make it homey.

I would really recommend this restaurant it has a lot of flavor and they aren’t stingy with their serving size. After having eaten the torta I could say it was worth the $7 I paid for this torta and would visit it again sometime soon.

Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 7.59.07 PM.pngThe service itself was also great in this place and quick to prepare the meals. However, I have heard that since it’s very popular it is usually packed and sometimes the cooks mess up the orders. Luckily that wasn’t my case, maybe because everyone was still coming back from Spring Break. Overall, their food is delicious and can fill a hungry college student who is on a budget.

B.K. Blog #4

IMG_1355It’s been a rough week before my Spring break, but I’m back. Since I have been pretty busy having a lot of school work I needed something quick and easy to obtain and eat. This time I decided to go to a very well-known fast food restaurant, Burger King.

B.K. was an very easy option for me and may be for others who wouldn’t mind walking from school. Its only about 8-10 minutes’ walk from the SSC at Chico State and Burger King. Very convenient if you are focused in studying for midterms and you don’t have any time to cook.

This Burger King was kind of sketchy because it was very empty even though it was noon. The employees too where not well presentable, for example one of them had their hat sideways almost covering their whole face.

However, the place itself seemed really clean and service was fast. Maybe because not may customers visit.

IMG_1357As my meal, I ordered a spicy chicken burger, fries and a drink all medium size for less than $8.00. This was a very simple and common meal that many decide to order when visiting a Burger King.

IMG_1358My Spicy chicken burger was very plain when I saw it, yet since I began eating it the flavors kicked in and I could sense the spiciness in the chicken. On the other hand, my fries looked very filled and attracted to my eye, yet when I took a bite out of one it was a little too salty for me. For my drink, I decided to go for a classic as well, Coca Cola.

Moreover, I would say burger King can be very handy and a tasty cheap meal. Although I would say next time I will probably try another fast food near campus, such as Jack in the box just because I found BK very Sketchy.

Tacos Pepe Blog #3

Screen Shot 2019-03-05 at 10.13.13 PMHello everyone, it has been a while since my last blog. Today I want to take you all to Tacos Pepe. Tacos Pepe is about a 10 minute walk and very close to my home, so very convenient for those of us living down town. This restaurant is very small but noticeable for its bright yellow color.

Tacos Pepe is something very different from any other restaurant. Here the food is being prepared right outside the shop. It’s helps attract customers and feel welcoming, especially when you go inside and it’s full of traditional Mexican decoration. This gave me the idea that it must be one of the best Mexican restaurants.

The first thing I ordered was some carne asada tacos and because it’s taco Tuesday and they are very affordable, $1 per taco. These where some watering flavorful tacos. I really liked that the restaurant offered a bar with many toppings one wants to add. There are many other things on the menu such as tortas, burrito and quesadillas.

These tacos didn’t make my mouth water as much as I thought they would, but once I took a bite they were delicious. It was greasy just like I like them and would recommend if you want a quick snack  only because they were too small to fill me.

**Tacos**

pastor-taco-pepe-e1551853371895.jpgThe first taco I tried was a taco de Pastor. This meat was very soft, maybe too soft but still good. Yet, there wasn’t enough meat on my tortillas. On top of it I added salsa, radish and cilantro to give it flavor.

asada-taco-pepe.jpgNext, I tried the 2 asada tacos and these were a bit better for its fresh taste and a bit more meat on it.  To these tacos I also added a topping of salsa, radish, and cilantro.

I would recommend this place for those who want a quick snack. Don’t forget thy’re also a dollar per taco on Tuesdays and Sundays. So, if you don’t have a lot of cash this is where you should go.

Crepeville

Today has a very windy day and it looks like it’s about to rain, but I have planned to go out and visit Crepeville and did end up going. This restaurant is not located very far from Chico State campus it’s downtown. I have been here once before, yet I don’t remember much of the taste of the food and I decided to taste the same dish I tried my first time here and a new dish I’ve never had.

When I first got to Crepeville it was quite full and cozy. The employees welcomed us and took our order with no problem. The place has an outside patio where you could enjoy your food. This would be nice during summer days, but for today I decided to sit inside. While being inside I noticed many panting around the walls that were interesting to see.

When it was time to order I decided to go for a Cinnamon Roll with Pecan Crepe that was around eight dollars and Crepeville French toast that was about 10 dollars. Their price was decent for the size of the food.

I first tried the crepe and it was very well presented with a good amount of whip cream to combine with the filling, cream cheese and pecans. It was almost like eating a cinnamon roll except with cream cheese. I really enjoyed this dish and would buy it again.

The French toast I purchased was a classic with fruit around it and syrup and its good. I was expecting something more exciting but it was just a simple plate, but very appetizing with the colorful fruit around it.

Lastly, I would recommend others visiting this restaurant if you have a sweet tooth. However, there are also other dishes offered as a meal that I didn’t get a chance to try, so it might be what you are looking for.

Introduction

Hi there, welcome to my blog my name is Magali Rincon I am from Southern California, but this is my second year here at CSU, Chico and my Major is Pre-Nursing. Even though I’ve been here for two years I have not had an opportunity to explore much of Chico, especially their restaurants or food trucks.

Therefore, I have created this blog to share with all of you my experience with restaurants here in Chico, CA. I am not a local, so this will be very interesting for me and my readers to see the outcome of visiting restaurants for a second time or random restaurants or restaurants locals have recommended me.

In each blog, I will be sharing about two to three plates offered at each restaurant. I will explain my experience at the location itself, the servers, and most importantly the taste and presentation of the dish and if it is something appetizing. I will also share the rounded cost of what I tried in the restaurant. There will also be pictures of the dishes on every blog I create.

Some of the foods I’m intrigued to try are Mexican food because back home everything tastes great and has so much flavor because its cooked by people from the region that know how the food should properly be prepared.

Other restaurants I can possibly visit are probably ones located downtown. Visiting restaurants downtown are closes to students at Chico State, so my blogs might catch their interest to know if they are worth spending money on.

What inspired me to decide on creating my Blogs based on food was because I enjoy eating as much as I like sleeping, so I thought it would be worth spending time doing something I enjoy. It will also allow me to explore more of Chico and the people.
